Nu accroupi
Discription: Gaudenzio Marconi (1841-1885) was an Italian photographer who spent much of his life working in France. Many of Marconis photographs were images of nude figures. Although photography only entered the art academy in the second half of the 19th century, this new medium already allowed both beginners and experienced artists to confront themselves with nudes in different poses. It was common at this time for artists and students to use photographs as source material for their sketches when live models (or the funds to pay for them) weren’t available. From 1871 the Marconi studio mark bore the title‚ Photographe de l‘École des beaux-arts‘ due to his relationship with this institution.

The condition of a photograph generally, but not always, affects the overall value of the work. In early photography, condition issues are to be expected given the age of the print.
Press prints, by their nature, were handled more than fine-art prints because of their use for disseminating information, which explains why they may have more creases.
